Why we started

In January of 2024 Emily O’Connor was diagnosed with Acute B cell Lymphoblastic (ALL) Leukemia. Emily is a 30 year old Trauma ICU nurse at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, which is where her passion and skills truly shine-- taking care of others. She is a Savannah native and has been an active member of the Irish Catholic Community and Church her whole life. St. Patrick's Day and all of its Festivities are some of her favorite days of the year! She went to St. James Catholic School for parochial school and St. Vincent's Academy for High School. She proudly received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Health from the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!!) and then went on to receive her Master’s in Nursing from Augusta University.

When finding out about Emily’s diagnosis many people wanted to help in whatever way they could. Ten of Emily’s friends joined together to host a fundraiser in the hopes to alleviate some of the cost of cancer treatment so that Emily and her family could focus on her. Over the course of six weeks and many nights of planning Rockin’ for Remission: Emily’s Encore was brought to life. We had no anticipation of what we saw on April 20, 2024. It is a day that those who were there will never forget.

It is because of the funds raised during Rockin’ for Remission that Emily and her family have been able to purchase whatever needed during the course of her treatment. It did exactly what we all hoped it would, allowed Emily and her family to focus on getting to remission, and here we are!

It is our hope moving forward to host Rockin for Remission yearly to benefit charities like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society who does so much for patients just like Emily.

MEET EMILY

Emily is a 30 year old Trauma ICU Nurse at Memorial Hospital and Savannah Native

Emily is a Savannah native and life long active member of the Irish Catholic community. She attended St. James Catholic School, St. Vincent's Academy, and went on to graduate from the University of Georgia. She then received her Masters in nursing from Augusta University. Following this she returned home to Savannah where she has treated many patients in Memorials Trauma ICU. Emily is one of the kindest people you will ever meet, and this shines through with each one of her patients.
